Holding Ground

Holding Ground is a tribute to the enduring strength, resilience and unwavering presence of women. Inspired by the powerful sentiment, “You strike a woman, you strike a rock,” this exhibition explores the role of women as the foundation upon which families, communities and generations are built. Across cultures and throughout history, women have carried the responsibility of nurturing, protecting, sustaining and rebuilding. Often expected to persevere in silence, they remain steadfast in the face of adversity, holding together the fabric of society through courage, sacrifice and determination. Their strength may not always be loud or visible, yet its impact is immeasurable.

The works in this all-women exhibition invite viewers to reconsider notions of power and hierarchy. While women have frequently occupied positions at the margins, it is precisely from these positions that they have provided support, stability and continuity. Like bedrock beneath the earth’s surface, their presence forms the essential ground upon which others stand.
