THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA with Zorada Temmingh

The original silent movie The Phantom of the Opera from 1925 showcases another brilliant performance by Lon Chaney as Erik, ‘the phantom’ of the Paris Opera House. While the audience watches the movie, Zorada improvises a soundtrack based on a variety of well-known 19th century opera music, including  the relevant arias and ballets of Gounod’s Faust when they are ‘heard’ on screen. Some of the music is Zorada’s own, e.g. the Phantom Theme with its surprisingly static manual chords and running feet on the pedals.
